It was easy to shelve it because, at least initially, it's not going to make me a dime. Nonetheless, it may be a HUGE part of his livelihood. I'll give the short version here and save the longer version for when I get around to writing it all out, but basically I'm trying to help a Pakistani buddy learn to fish, rather than giving him a fish. We brainstormed and came up with a low-cost idea that could really help him out. He buys/makes trinkets in Pakistan, and I sell them for a few bucks here. The exchange rate is such that a few bucks here converts to thousands of rupees there.
Now, the trinkets aren't much. Right now all we've got are some bracelets that, despite myself, I think are pretty cool. Here's a picture:
It's just a simple bracelet with images of the Holy Family and saints on it. If you're into that kind of thing, it's a great conversation-starter. ;-)
All the profits go toward helping a persecuted Christian in Pakistan. Christians there are abused on so many levels--everything from being prevented from finding jobs, to forced conversion, to death. So far my friend has only been prevented from finding a job, although someone DID try to run him over earlier this year. Please consider buying a bracelet and helping a brother out. Compared to his life, all of us have it pretty good.
